London commercial property agency MERJS has announced the completed purchase of 106-109 Saffron Hill, London, EC1 on behalf of The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management. The self-contained freehold commercial property consists of 7,000 square feet of office space and will form the new Head Office for CIWEM following a period of refurbishment.
"CIWEM had to make some critical commercial property decisions when they realised that renewing the lease on their current headquarters in John Street wouldn't serve the interests of the organisation," said Colin Becker, Equity Director for MERJS. "The lease on the current headquarters is due to run out in March 2012, but the building had no potential to scale with their future needs. As an organisation that has environmental sustainability as one of its core concerns, they also felt that a period building that fails to meet basic environmental standards was not suitable in the long term."
"The recently purchased building will form the new CIWEM headquarters, and is due to be fully refurbished. CIWEM plans to carry out the refurbishment to BREEAM standards with the laudable ambition of making their new headquarters an exemplar eco-build project," Colin continued. "The new office building also benefits from excellent transport links and is located in an area of active regeneration thanks to the London Crossrail development. I'm certain that when the refurbishment is completed, CIWEM will enjoy an excellent and much improved working environment in their new headquarters," Colin concluded.
